Bruce J. Roberts

Bruce is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Business--Accounting at Edgewood College—since 1999. He has taught a number of accounting courses, including currently Auditing and Graduate Accounting for Managers. Hi is currently developing an insurance curriculum for Edgewood College in conjunction with the Wisconsin Foundation of Independent Colleges (WFIC) and a grant provided by West Bend Mutual Insurance Company (NSI Insurance).  
 
Bruce, a CPA, has previously served as controller for a Wisconsin-based mutual property and liability insurance company. He handled monthly and year-end financial reporting, along with serving as Budget Manager of the Company. 
 
As a partner at the CPA firm, McGladrey & Pullen, his primary focus was developing a practice in the insurance industry. This practice included preparation of regulatory annual statements, auditing and income tax return preparation. He created and instructed a series of Insurance Industry Seminars attended on a national basis. He has also provided special litigation consulting dealing with insurance company financial reporting and regulatory matters along with special services regarding the valuation of several insurance companies. He served as a concurring audit reviewer for property and casualty insurance companies for the Firm’s national office.
 

He annually compiles the Regulatory Town Mutual Annual Statement for the State of Wisconsin. Office of the Commissioner of Insurance for a town mutual insurance company. He has provided consulting services as needed, such as developing a company disaster recovery plan and a systems documentation manual. He also currently serves on the board of directors of Wisconsin Mutual Insurance Company.

 

 

Kimberly A. Shaul, JD
Instructor
 
Kimberly Shaul serves as Deputy Commissioner of Insurance for the State of Wisconsin.   The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance regulates the business of insurance in Wisconsin. The Office, with a staff of 135, is responsible for examining industry financial practices and market conduct, licensing agents, reviewing policy forms for compliance with state legislation, investigating consumer complaints and providing consumer information. In addition to its regulatory duties, the agency administers the State Life Insurance Fund, Local Government Property Insurance Fund and the Injured Patients and Families Compensation Fund.
 
Ms. Shaul is an attorney, with both her BA and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has extensive legal and business experience in the insurance industry, previously serving as Claims Director for American Family Insurance Group in its Life and Health Division. In this position, her responsibilities included general business management, customer service, claims processing, strategic planning, vendor management and contracting, project management, budget and financial analysis and employee development. Ms. Shaul also served in legal and compliance functions at American Family. She started at the company as a litigation attorney for the Property and Casualty Claims Division. She next served as Assistant General Counsel then Life/Health Compliance Director before her work as Claims Director. Prior to her tenure at American Family, Ms. Shaul worked in a private law firm and also for the Wisconsin State Assembly.
 
At Edgewood, she is instructor for Principles of Insurance in the College’s Insurance Industry Curriculum.
